When it comes to powerful modern blenders styled with retro goodness, none can top the Waring Blender. It’s got more horsepower than ever – 390 watts of ice crushing power – yet it’s versatile enough to handle a wide variety of kitchen tasks like mixing, chopping, and pureeing with ease. Jeepers!
There’s a retro-riffic back story to the Waring
Blender. It was financed and marketed by retro renaissance man Fred Waring, well-known big band frontman of Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. When he wasn’t swinging with the band, Waring put his Penn State engineering skills to work looking for space-age inventions in which to invest. He knew he’d hit a winner when Fred Ossius talked his way into his dressing room at New York’s Vanderbilt Theatre to ask for funding for a prototype blending machine. Ossius proposed that Waring’s money and technical know-how could make the blender an indispensable household appliance. Waring knew he was right.
Six months and $25,000 later, the blender still had functional teething troubles and no commercial following. Waring, having had enough foolishness, booted Ossius off the project, redesigned the blender, and went on a one-man marketing blitzkreig. He took the Waring Blender on tour with his band, demonstrating it to hotel owners and restaurateurs across the nation. Eventually his campaign caught the attention of newspapers and upscale shops like Bloomingdale’s, and the rest was gravy. He confidently asserted to one news reporter, “…this mixer is going to revolutionize American drinks.” And it did. In 1954, the millionth Waring Blender was sold.
To this day, the Waring Blender is a must-have in the kitchens of those who know better. Many chefs prefer the Waring Blender over food processors – the blades whirl more quickly and refine creamy soups and sauces to an incomparably silken texture. And let’s not forget its chopping, pulverizing, and infamous ice crushing abilities. Use it to chop some homemade salsa, then blend a batch of divine margaritas the next time the gang drops by. Fiesta! Versatility is one of the reasons the Waring Blender is such a smart kitchen appliance investment.
The other reasons are all about quality and practicality – the Waring Blender is built for durable convenience. The lid’s cap doubles as a one-ounce measure – ideal for home bartending. The base is sturdy, so no tipping or wobbling during use. Its five cup capacity pitcher is made of thick, ridged glass – hard to break, but easy to clean, especially in the dishwasher. Best of all, the fixed, self-cleaning stainless-steel blades on the base of the pitcher mean the lid is the only separate part to wash. Eureka!
So get yourself a retro-styled Waring Blender. You’ll be glad you did.
